With our recent update of our design also came some new, exciting features that we didn't have before. One of those features is the possibility to set rules on your survey.
Read more about them below.
What Are Rules
Setting rules is a way of making something happen based on the answer of a specific question. They do this by following the if this, then that principle. We currently offer two types of rules, both of which will be explained now.
Types of Rules
Field Rules: these rules show or hide any question based on the value of another question. For example, you first ask a multiple choice question with answer options A and B. However, only if your respondents answer B do you want them to answer a follow-up question. So in this case you would use a Field Rule to only show that second question if the answer to your first question was B.
Page Rules: skip certain pages or go straight to the End page from any page on your survey, based on the answer to a question. For example, you only want to survey female respondents between the ages of 18 and 50. By first asking your respondents about their gender, and then about their age, you can filter out the respondents you don't want. Namely, if they answer Male or <18 / 50+, you can simply use a Page Rule to redirect them to your End page, where you kindly thank them for their desire to fill in your survey and explain why you had to disappoint them by filtering them out.
Setting rules allows you to be creative, as can be seen by the following options you have when comparing questions with their answers.
To give you an idea of how this might look like, take a look at the following image:
You can also add multiple conditions for a rule. This can be illustrated by showing the two examples mentioned above:
Oh, one last thing: when creating your own awesome rules, it's important to remember that if there are two conflicting rules, the one that comes last is the one that will be calculated.
And that's it.
